A spread disapproval of US President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is what emerges from a survey conducted by ORB International for GIA at the end of December 2017 to which some of the WIN members participated.
Considering the interviewed countries, more than two thirds of the interviewed (71%) disagree with the proposal. Disagreement rises at 94% if we consider the Arab world alone. Traditional allies of the US such as Jordan (97%), South Korea (46%) and the UK (45%) also disagree with this decision.
When asked to express their level of agreement to the statement “The US move to recognize Jerusalem as capital of Israel gives the Palestinians more justification for using force to achieve their own state“, half of the polled worldwide (52%) agreed, a figure increasing to 77% in the Arab World.
With an additional step forward, seven out of ten (70%) think terrorism will increase in the Islamic World following the US Presidency decision. This percentage increases significantly in Yemen (87%), Syria (82%) and Iraq (76%), countries which are currently fighting terrorism at their home.
